Penfield Open House--May 14, 2005
Click each photo for a larger view

These are the rock piles that we could dig through. Here is a grouping of cars and rockhounds. This shows how high the wall was even though we weren't in the deepest part of the quarry.
A wide angle view of the quarry.  The smoke is from a gas powered rock saw. Here is a view of the lower quarry.  Even though we were in digging, they were still operating their machinery. Here is a nice pocket.  This is one reason why you shouldn't put your hand in a pocket without a glove or pick.
Here is a pocket of dolomite crystals and calcite crystals. Another Pocket A boulder with lots of pockets.
Here is a giant boulder that fell from the top of the quarry...it is about the same size as my truck. Here is someone cutting out a nice calcite and fluorite pocket. This is a picture of a rarer colored fluorite that someone else found in a pile of rubble.  It is missing one corner, but is still excellent.  This crystal is approximately 2" x 2"
